Independence Day is a time of great celebration all across the country. We gather with friends and family, we grill, light off fireworks, open our homes, and celebrate this great nation. At the same time every year over our holidays, especially Independence Day people are hurt or injured.
As such, we thought we would put out this safety tip list:
Driving and traveling
- Do not drink and drive! There are plenty of other options from sober drivers, to taxis, Ubers, and other ride sharing arrangements.
- Stay off the roads unless necessary, every year innocent people are injured or killed by those who are irresponsible or unsafe. During holidays the number of drunk drivers on the roadways increases, especially at night.
Fireworks
- Sparklers can be dangerous supervise children who use them.
- Always have an adult supervise any children using fireworks.
- Do not use illegal fireworks.
- Place used fireworks in a bucket of water.
- Keep water handy to put out fires.
- Do not hold fireworks after having lit the fuse.
- Back up to a safe distance immediately after lighting fireworks.
- Make sure fireworks are pointed away from crowds and buildings.
- Do not use fireworks while intoxicated.
Party Hosting Tips
- Make your grilling zone a child free area.
- Have plenty of water available.
- Safeguard the alcohol so that minors cannot access it.
- Do not allow intoxicated guests to drive home.
- Fix, mark, or pick up any hazards that could cause people fall, trip, or hurt themselves.
- If there is a pool, lake, or body of water involved make sure that parents track their children in the area.
