Multiple Fatality Crashes During Snow Storm
November 28, 2023 | Accidents
The first snow storm of the season brought a busy weekend for the Nebraska State Patrol. There were several fatality crashes as a result of Friday’s snow storm.
There was a particularly bad crash on Interstate 80 and close to mile marker 184. Three vehicles were involved in the crash, a GMC Yukon, a Honda SUV and a Semi-truck. A report indicated the GMC Yukon apparently lost control while traveling westbound on I-80. This loss of control caused it to cross the median and strike the Honda SUV and the Semi.
The driver of the GMC, Lezter Juarez (27) and the passenger Janice Arriaga-Martinez (25), were reportedly thrown from the Yukon and died as a result of their injuries.
There were four people traveling in the Honda who were taken to a hospital in North Platte, then subsequently transported to University of Nebraska Medical Center for further treatment. The semi-truck driver was reportedly not injured. It took hours to completely re-open I-80.
During this same time period Friday afternoon, another single-vehicle fatality crash occurred on I-80 and near mile marker 211. A Ford pickup was reportedly also traveling westbound when it lost control and rolled. The weather seemed to be the primary cause of this accident as well.
The driver in the pickup was also thrown from his vehicle. Joseph Dodson (53) of North Platte was administered life-saving measures until the Emergency Medical Services arrived, but the driver later died at the hospital. There was also a passenger in the pickup who sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Nebraska State Patrol.
